TS Web Access enables you to make RemoteApp programs appear as a link on the Web site and make them available to remote users. TS Web Access also provides direct access to remote access through the Web browsers.

Install the TS Web Access server role if you have not already done so. You can add the TS Web Access Web page as a Web Part to your corporate Web site. IIS is required by TS Web Access. All applications that need to be available through RemoteApp have to be installed only after installing Terminal Service.

If you have not installed TS Web Access role service, install it through Server Manager.

New & Noteworthy...: Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) Client 6.1

Client computers running RDC client 6.1 can access TS Web Access. RDC client 6.1 is included in Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista with SP1, and Windows XP with SP3 Beta or Windows XP with SP3 operating systems.

To configure TS Web Access:

1.
Open the Internet Explorer browser.

2.
Type http://server_name/ts (In this exercise, win-kn3t0cfzmmv. syngress.local/ts) (see Figure 1).

3.
Click on the Configuration link.

4.
Provide the name of the Terminal Server in the Terminal server name text box under Editor Zone and then click Apply.

5.
You will find the list of published applications in the RemoteApp Programs (see Figure 2) link.

6.
Click on the Microsoft Office Word 2007 icon to start the remote application.

7.
Provide the terminal server user name and password (tsuser1).

8.
You may see a warning window (see Figure 3). Click on Connect.

9.
Microsoft Office Word 2007 should open with the look and feel of accessing a local application.

10.
If you encounter an error message (ActiveX control not installed or not enabled) it’s possibly due to the RDP client version running on your system (see Figure 4). RDP client version 6.1 is required to access TS Web service. Presently in the Windows 2008 RC1 version clicking on the visit Web site link takes you to a blog suggesting some solution. You may click on Install ActiveX control without much success. Hopefully this will be resolved in the final release. To install the latest RDP client software, visit this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/925876.

The RDP client (Terminal Services Client 6.0) is available for Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003, x64, Windows XP, and Windows XP, x64.
